DVDs wont play on Linux Mint 18 Mate

Postby JazzyFizzles » 30 Aug 2016 17:46

Hi,
First off, I'm competent on Windows but a newbie on Linux.

On my Windows 7 SP1 x64 machine I've got VLC 2.2.1 (32bit) - this plays DVD straight out the box.

Just Installed Linux Mint 18 Mate x86 (Pentium 4, x86, 2GB, XFX 7800GS AGP card) and added VLC 2.2.2.
When attempting to play a DVD the title flahses up in the VLC dialog title and the lower horizontal scroll bar shows the total DVD play time, then the VLC dialog title reverts to VLC media player and the lower scroll bar vanishes. The DVD doesn't play.

I've tried to add Debug logging but it doesn't apppear to work the same way as on Windows.

Do I need to install codecs (this doesn't seem to be required on Win7)?

Thanks,
J.
