Video menu mostly grayed out in Ubuntu 15.04

Postby pedantic_git » 25 Apr 2015 19:32

Hi all

Apologies if this has been asked before. Searching around I cannot find anything.

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04 (which has its own VLC 2.2 package) I've found the contents of the "video" menu are now almost all grayed out when playing a video.

The only ones available are "Fullscreen", "Always on Top" and "Set as Wallpaper". Zoom, Aspect Ratio, Post-processing, Take Snapshot etc. are all greyed out and unavailable (as are their keyboard shortcuts).

I've tried all kinds of videos, including ones I knew were working in Ubuntu 14.10 (which was also VLC 2.2).

Any ideas what this is? Could it be my graphics drivers or something? Where can I go to see debug information about why these menu options are disabled?

Thanks for your help!

If you see the video playing, it's not a driver bug. In that case, it's more likely a bug in the VLC GUI, or in Ubuntu's version of Qt.

Hi Rémi

How would I go about finding that out? Is there any way I can find out what conditions triggered the graying-out of the items?

Can someone else who has upgraded to 15.04 find out if it is happening to them too?

Cheers,

~ Rich

HI pedantic_git

I have the same problem... I installed ubuntu 15.04 and noticed that some menu options are not appearing in the top menu (integrated on ubuntu). In my case I noticed that VLC did not recognize audio tracks. Acessing the menu by right clicking on the video playback all options are available.

And about the grayed menu items, they probably are disabled. Probably the default VLC GUI was loaded and no more updated after that.

If you can select track in the context menu, and not in the menu bar menu, then it is a bug in Ubuntu, not in VLC.

Thanks for that hint - it is indeed the case.

I'll report it as a bug in Unity.
