aRts plugin and other mino problems.

Postby sgau » 13 Oct 2005 13:54

G'day everyone!

Having installed VideoLAN Client 0.8.2 I experience the following problems:

i) The first issue is with the aRts plugin. I've got Athlon XP 1600+. Choosing the sound output via aRts plugin results in wxWindow interface being slowed down. It responses to user events like clicks and menu browsing very and very slow, while the cpu load is average of 15-20%. After I choose ALSA or OSS output, everything is ok. What's the problem? (by the way playing the same video or music with mplayer or xine via aRts, everything is just fine)

ii) Charset problem (ru_RU.koi8r). Having put the Misc Fixed fontset string to ~/.gtkrc results in displaying of koi8-r cyrillic characters well. Though I couldn't figure out the reason tooltips still displayed improperly. It seems tips are displayed with the default helvetica font, this font doesn't have valid koi8-r symbols.

This is the ~/.gtkrc
------------------------
style "gtk-default" {
fontset = "-misc-fixed-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-koi8-r,*-r-*"
}
class "GtkWidget" style "gtk-default"
include "/usr/share/themes/Bluecurve/gtk/gtkrc"
------------------------

No manupulations with the widget "gtk-tooltips" helped ((.

iii) VLC resets the config file to all defaults, without being asked to.
Steps to reproduce:
Use the default config ~/.vlc/vlcrc. Start the vlc and change an option, for example set the audio output to ALSA. Save and close vlc. we have aout=alsa in vlcrc. Start vlc again. Go to settings and change something. Press OK. Goto setting again. Press SAVE. Close vlc. Now we get back to default options #aout=, though I didn't alter the audio output.

you know guys i experience the same troubles, especially sudden config reset issues. sorry but this really makes the player suck. it is useless with such bugs, and really annoying.

rpm -e videolan-client
rm rf ~/.vlc
