VLC 2.2.0 Beta

I like using the latest, so I have been using VLC-2.2.0-beta for a while.
The latest update on the beta was 10 months ago, while the 2.1.x has had 5 maintenance releases since it came out.

How is the development going? No new beta for so many months.


With a lot about UHD/4K lately, I started to think. Some Blu-ray players, specially the OPPO BDP-103 are great with upscaling.
So how good is VLC with upscaling (quality and speed), DVD->BD, BD-HD->BD-UDH ? Is it equally as good as the hardware players, worse, or better?
