The Video Output Filter is set to default. I tried changing it to OpenGL to see if that would get to use "hardware rendering", but that just resulted in higher CPU usage (100%) and jerky video. I changed it back to default.Your VLC might not be using hardware rendering?
So your X11 does not have a good Xvideo setup.
That woudl cause a considerable amount of CPU useage increase
