Problem Compiling VLC on Ubuntu 11.10

Postby stanwir » 07 Mar 2013 02:45

Hi

I am getting the following error when i try to do ./configure during the VLC compiling process

checking for AVCODEC... no
configure: error: Requested 'libavcodec >= 53.34.0' but version of libavcodec is 53.6.0
Requested 'libavutil >= 51.22.0' but version of libavutil is 51.7.0. Pass --disable-avcodec to ignore this error.

I have the required packages installed but it seems they are updated and in compatible. How do i deal with this error? Any help will be appreciated.

The libav* packages in Ubuntu 11.10 are too old to build modern VLC.

Is there any way to avoid it since I need Ubuntu 11.10(the 12.10 has another issue)?
