use x11 with xcb else u need to install libx11 libraried if u have compiled vlc with source else not. go in preferences and select in video output x11xcb or qt4

I have the same problem.

Removed Microsoft: Installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (on 15May)
VLC media player 2.0.7 Twoflower: Installed restricted packages
CD player works/DVD does not.

I've spent last 5 days trying to fix with no solution. I figured out (I think) that the issue is the mount. Trouble is most suggestions don't explain in full how to fix or give partial solutions.

Can anybody help me (total newbie to linux)? What else can I provide to this post to find the problem?

Thank you.

X11 output is supposed to work everywhere but it is quite heavy (slow). Normally, you should keep defaults.

Unfortunately, with so little infos, I can only assume either your Ubuntu installation is corrupt or your video drivers are busted. Either way, I cannot help you.

Set to default right now. At the second it is working. but that will change I am sure. What more information do you need, and how can I get it? Thanks
