Linux sound capture

Postby arromdee » 19 May 2013 07:18

Version is 2.0.1 (a little old). Mageia 2.0.

I want to play a DVD and put the audio in a file.

I want to know how to actually navigate the menus to get the sound that I want--not just to play a single title and use "convert", since that is not a fully general solution to the problem.

What I tried to do was set my audio preferences to "File audio output".

When I use that and play the DVD, it produces audio in the output file. However, when vlc returns to the DVD menu, it then empties the output file and starts writing the file from the beginning again. As a result, I pretty much can never get a full output file.

How do I get vlc to output audio to an output file *without* emptying the file every time it returns to the DVD menu?

I don't think you can achieve that from the GUI. You'll need to setup the streaming output from CLI.
