VLC 2.0 on Fedora

Postby Lord.Quackstar » 23 Feb 2012 01:15

Is there an ETA on VLC in Fedora and other RPM based distributions? Currently 2.0 is not in RPM Fusion Fedora 16 release, updates, or updates-testing repos.

Note: I am not compiling VLC for myself. I'm one of those people that considers a distribution unsupported if the first answer is "Well you can compile it"

Thanks

No idea. It will depend on when rpm fusion do it.

How to get it

Since this is the 2nd result in my search for "Vlc 2.0 on Fedora 16" I thought I would say the existing options
  1. Update to Fedora 17 Rawhide - RPM fusion has released VLC 2.0 in its free-rawhide repository. Unfortunately it depends on libraries that are in Fedora's rawhide repo which is probably a turn off to a lot of users who want to stay away from rawhide. Its there though if you wish to use it
  2. Use the alternative remi repo - remi has VLC 2.0 without needing to update your other libraries and works just fine. Follow the guide here: http://www.linuxnov.com/how-to-install- ... fedora-16/
Hope this helps someone

How can I install VLC 2.0.1 on Fedora 16 32 bits?
This remi repository has no VLC 2.0 package.

I noticed the Remi repository last week was not in a state to install vlc 2 onto a 32 bit system using F16.

An alternate repo ATrpms however had less issues.

Good luck.

I've installled vlc 1.1.13 on Fedora 16 32 bit but I need to install vlc 2.X version
apparently there isn't any repository with this version.
All pages about how install it are down.
I can't change Fedora version, it must be Fedora 16.
How can I install it?

vlc 2.0.x is only on f17 and onwards (and even el6). I don't plan to update to vlc 2.0.x on f16.
