VLC 0.8.2 crashes at the layer boundary of Dual Layer DVD

VLC on Mandriva linux se 2005 works fine except dual layer DVDs
Same PC running XP and WinDVD4 is ok with Dual layer(same DVD) . At the layer change (noticable delay in chapter change) WinDVD is ok but VLC under Linux crashes.

is this a known problem ?
can I fix it with any of the preferences/options ?
