No sound in VLC

Postby kamyogi » 03 Jul 2012 13:59

Hi,

I run VLC 2.0.1 Twoflower on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

There's no sound in VLC while I play a movie in it. Video plays well. The same file plays well (both audio and video) in Movie Player. Listening to live audio streams through Rhythembox also works fine (that makes me think that my audio hardware settings are OK). Why there's no sound in VLC?

One more thing : I am quite new to Ubuntu ( I've not yet tried anything in Terminal! ) :)

Thanks for your reply.

Reset your preferences. If it still fails, logs are needed to investigate.

Salut Rémy, Thanks for quick reply.

I tried resetting Preferences (Tools, Preferences, Reset Preferences, confirmed it on prompt), closed VLC once, and re-opened it. Still, the same result. :(

Could you please tell me how to provide you logs?

A+

hi,

try choosing pulse audio output in tools > audio > audio modules. It worked for me.

For vlc log, choose all at the left bottom of preferences. The under the advanced tab , choose logging and choose a file. Now i believe log will be saved.

All the best

I also uninstalled and reinstalled to get the audio to work. I uninstalled it from the Synaptic Package Manager after unsuccessfully trying the Ubuntu Package Manager. It seems I had to uninstall *all* of the libraries related to VLC and reinstall them again to have the program working again.

Hello,
I am having the same problem. What do you mean when you say you uninstalled "all" the libraries related to VLC? How do I go about doing that? Thank you.
