Initial size

Postby vlc-user » 17 Apr 2012 15:45

Hi there,

I have a problem (not only) with changing screen configurations:
  • most times, I use only one screen, 1400x1050.
  • sometimes (when watching movies), I add a second screen, 1920x1200, that is normally connected to the other PC.
This means, VLC may find a different screen resolution. on every start.

Additionally, I have strongly varying video resolutions to watch. And it looks like VLC gets confused by the changing screen and video resolutions and does not know in which size to start.
Some examples:
  • When I last watched a HD movie on the large screen, then close it, then reconfigure the display to the small screen only, then watch a small sized video clip, VLC starts in nearly fullscreen size and shows a zoomed video. When I select Video->Zoom->1:1, the video size changes, but the interface size stays the same. I have set the option "adapt interface to video size".
  • When I watch different sized clips on the small screen only (the large one stays disconnected), VLC suddenly decides to come up nearly fullscreen.
  • I have even tried to start an empty VLC and set a suitable size, then closed it. When I now open video clips (all without adding the large screen to the configuration), it starts in the previously specified size for a few times, then it suddenly comes up in nearly fullscreen again.
It looks like VLC has some tendency towards getting big. I really hate that. If I wanted that, I had set the option "start in fullscreen". But I haven't. I have noticed the second and third issue of the above list already before I ever connected the second (large) screen.

Is there an option to always start in explicitly 1:1 size ?

If not, this is a feature request :-)
Thanks and Regards,
Markus
