vlc-plugin 1.0.5-5 no controls and doesn play apple.com trai

Postby kingtubby » 19 Mar 2010 15:36

hey I got two issues with the vlc plugin

1) There are no controls !!
Image

As you can see one can't switch to full screen or fast forward etc. The normal keybindings don't work either.
Without controls the plugin doesn't make much sense does it?

2) I can't watch apple.com trailers what so ever.

Image

Code: Select all

javascript:alert([].map.call(navigator.plugins["VLC Multimedia Plug-in"],function(e){return String(e.type);}).sort().join('\n'));]
is positive. Quicktime is installed.

Archlinux vlc-plugin 1.0.5.5 Opera 10.10
no other media plugins are installed i.e. no gecko media player etc.

Is it just me or are those known issues?

Thank you.

Keyinding works in fullscreen.

Your're welcome to send a patch for a control bar.

VLC controls are supposed to be added to the web page. If you use a web page that was not meant for VLC, you may have a problem.

At least I found out that by double clicking on the video I can get the fullscreen mode but pausing the video etc. doesn't work for me. But still 99% of the web sites out there aren't aware of vlc. So in any case having a default control bar does make a lot of sense.

AS to the my apple.com trailer question. I found out that apple is checking the browser's user-agent string, and it rejects the browser if it says anything else but quicktime or itunes. So basically my Q has nothing todo with the plugin as such. But there are ways to get around this limitations. Like the uzbl-broswer where one can freely choose the user-agent.

ok... I'm testing the plugin against test.html from the git (the one in projects/mozilla) I can see some basic controls in firefox. But they only show up in FF not in opera or the chromium/uzbl-browser. Anyway for now I can't compile the project due to api changes in mozilla's xulrunner (bjsnider told me that on #videolan ) but I'd be glad if you could point me straight away to the source code where I can try to understand what has to be changed (ie class, methods, api etc.). thx.

Im having the same issues as well. I find it extremely frustrating to have a plugin that i cant control or for that matter a video plugin with no controls... this has been the case for a while now and im confused as to why there is a plugin if it cant be controlled in the browser.

The answer to the last question is quite simple: nobody ever wrote the implementation.

The answer to the last question is quite simple: nobody ever wrote the implementation.
perhaps, just maybe some of developing time would be given towards a web implementation that provides controls and windowless mode, and few other features such as changing subtitles embedded in mkv or changing audio tracks.

I'm still learning how to code in C++ and python, using QT designer, when i learned enough to code I will create alternative player, just for browsers to replace adobe flash and that html5 garbage.

:)

still there's no way to change MKV audio track in browser?
is there at least any way to specify a Default Language for MKV?
