watching a video with a higher resolution than your computer

Postby COKEDUDE » 31 Jan 2011 09:34

watching a video with a higher resolution than your computer has from vlc

Does anyone know of a way to watch a video with a higher resolution than your computer has from vlc? My monitor has a resolution of only 1024X768. I am trying to watch a video that has a resolution of 1920X1080. How can I adjust vlc's settings to deal with this problem? I tried to shrink the video really small manually and I used the video, zoom, 1:4 quarter setting also. Both ways the video still froze a lot.

Maybe you don't have enough cpu power to decode a video with this resolution ?

Yes you are correct. I have a 3 year old laptop. Could I adjust some vlc settings to make it better?

Maybe you could use GPU decoding, but I don't know if this is available with your GPU. Try tho option in vlc preferences.
Otherwise, not much you can do...

VLC can decode videos larger than the screen without problems. And it's completely automatic.
