VLC running in Ubuntu/ VMware Player problem

Postby jvdstoel » 19 Jan 2011 15:03

Hello,
We use VMware player for a lot of development purposes. VMware player is running in Windows XP.
I have connected a uvc logitech camera to my laptop. (tested with two different models)
What I encountered is the following: (all OS'es running in VMware)
Ubuntu 10.04 & VLC & xawtv installed from the repository (latest version):
- Both VLC & xawtv show the camera image.
Ubuntu 10.10 & VLC & xawtv installed from the repository (latest version):
- Only xawtv shows the camera image.

VLC shows:

kernel says the device is busy. Another application is using it.

Dear Remy,

This would be too easy - I can assure you this is not the case.
I already discusssed this issue with Jean-Paul Saman (I guess you know him); he is working for us and he advised me to post this topic.

We are rather convinced here is a bug somewhere.

Best regards,
Johan

It is unlikely that VLC invents EBUSY... But if you think it does, you're welcome to propose a fix.

If I would have the knowledge to debug this further, I would do it. But I don't have it...
