UPNP module bug?

Postby jam123 » 05 Jan 2011 10:07

I couldn't get UPNP browsing to work on one PC, while on another it was working fine...

After much debugging I found that it will not work if you have the UPNP module enabled in Playlist->Services Discovery. What happens is the module loads immediately on starting vlc, and seems to work properly in the background... but then when you expand 'Local Network' and click the UPNP item, it re-opens the module. Open() is called twice, which results in:

UPNP_E_INIT

and so UPNP doesn't show anything. However if you uncheck the UPNP module in Playlist->Services Discovery, save, and restart vlc, then it works.

Can anyone else confirm this? Shall I file a bug?

cheers

Hi,

I have the same problem and have now unchecked the UPNP module in Playlist->Services Discovery
But... where can I find the 'Local Network' item that one can expand?

I go straight to File->Services Discovery->Universal PlugnPlay. This adds a UPNP item to my playlist that is *empty* :/

Thx

I have discovered this problem too. No bug raised yet or code fixes as far as I can tell.
But... where can I find the 'Local Network' item that one can expand?
If you select Playlist from the View menu, then in the the playlist window under Media Browser is Local Network with Universal Plug'n'Play underneath.

It affects current git too so I've raised bug 4488.

I'm sorry, I'm really a newbie, but I'm struggling to find the download link for this UPnP module. Could anyone be so kind to provide me with the link?
Thank you!

There is no separate download. You can find it in the playlist (to the left), then Local Network, then Universal Plug'n'Play.

Make sure you have VLC version 1.1.0 or later.

I have VLC 1.1.9, and the UPnP option isn't listed under Services discovery, the only options are SAP, Podcasts and My Videos. SAP seems to be something similar but they don't seem to be compatible. Does VLC still support UPnP?

Yes. But maybe your packager did not include it in the VLC build you use.
