Ubuntu 10 PPC VLC

Postby markosjal » 19 Aug 2010 08:02

I have an old imac 350 Slot Loader PPC that I am running Ubuntu 10.04 PPC (Gnome) and the standard VLC included. 1.0.6 Godeneye.

I have been very impressed with this OS after my tweaks, and it runs better than any I have run before on this old machine.

The only problem is that VLC will start, but every time I try to play any file, it crashes.

Has anyone else run into or fixed this issue? Is there a .deb (all) or .deb (ppc) vlc that I can try running to install a different version?

I at first thought this had to do with playing videos and the 16bit color video I set this system to, however after testing at 24 bit color, it is the same as well as I see that it crashes on mp3 files.

Any help appreciated.

Hi,
Did you install vlc using apt? Try reinstalling it first:
1. sudo apt-get remove --purge vlc libdvdcss2
2. sudo apt-get install vlc libdvdcss2

If it still crashes and assuming it was installed correctly, next thing is to try building it from source yourself. Let me know and I will reply instructions to build it.
