VLC WMAP Ubuntu

Postby Pyo » 29 Jun 2010 17:30

Hello,
I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx, and VLC 1.0.6 Goldeneye.
Reading some videos, I don't have sound with the message:
Pas de décodeur approprié pour le format:
VLC ne supporte probablement pas le format audio ou vidéo « wmap ». Malheureusement il n’y a rien à faire.

Or:
main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `wmap'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 1

Is there is a solution?

Thanks very in advance for your help
Pyo

Thank you very mutch for your reponse.
ffmepg ver is : SVN-r0.5.1-4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1
And VLC 1.0.6 Goldeneye

They are updated from Ubuntu (10.04, 64 bit) repository.

You mean I need to compile new versions?

I'm not sure this will help, but ubuntu does not ship with the full ffmpeg libraries. For legal reasons certain parts are removed as they are encumbered with patents.

In order to "fix" this you will need to add the medibuntu repository (http://www.medibuntu.org) and install the needed "extras".

The first "extra" will be the codecs - depending on your platform "w32codecs" or "w64codecs". The second "extra" will be the unstripped version of the ffmpeg libraries called "libavcodec-unstripped-52".

After installation of these extras the config is as close as you can get to "full" without compiling your own ffmpeg and vlc from scratch.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much Quietelife2k for your help!
W64 codecs were already installed, but not libavcodec-unstripped-52!
So, I re-install w64 codecs and install libavcodec-unstripped-52…

But the problem is still the same, with same message in VLC…
