cannot stream from command line

Hi,


I have gotten vlc to stream from a webcam using the gui however I cannot get the same from the command line. I would like vlc to start streaming as soon as Linux is done booting. The only way I can think of doing this is with the command line. The command that vlc gives when I get it to stream with the gui is:
vlc v4l2:// :v4l2-dev=/dev/video0 :v4l2-adev= :v4l2-standard=0:sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=800,scale=1}:duplicate{dst=display,dst=std{access=http,mux=asf,dst=localhost:8080}} :sout-all :sout-keep

This line opens vlc and a window for the video but does not stream.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

maybe you have to use cvlc instead of vlc. I have tried to stream like this:

Please try and check if you get sound as well. Because this is the only thing which is not working in my stream.

Thanks for the reply. I tried your example but the error message tells me "nothing to play". I tried modifying to see if I could get it to stream but no luck. Eventually I was able to get it to grab the output of my web cam and play it in a VLC window but that was about it. It's confusing. In the command line the streaming attributes are clear duplicate{dst=std{access=udp,mux=ts{ttl=12},dst=192.168.1.2:1234},dst=display} but there is no stream to be received by another video player however it works without problems when I use the VLC GUI to broadcast a video stream. I can even receive that stream in Firefox. Strange.

I'm having the same issue (vlc-1.1.1). I can start streaming from the GUI and connect to it with no problem, but when I try streaming from the command line (using the parameters generated by the GUI session), the client simply reports "main stream error: cannot pre fill buffer".

Also, when I execute
