Ubuntu VLC Update

I am using Ubuntu and I have the problem that Ubuntu didn't uses the actual verison of VLC.
Ubuntu uses still 1.0.2 but I like to use 1.0.5.....

I still have an other problem (also in WIndows):
If i minimize the VLC window (or miro which is bases on vlc) and I maximize it, I can't see anything. The window stays black but the sound goes on. I read in another board that i could change it with hardware acceleration but i can't find this option in Miro.

VLC 1.0.6 is already in Ubuntu Lucid.

Don't blame the VideoLAN project for limitations of Canonical's Ubuntu release process.

No I don't blame them but for other softwares (Firefox/Wine...) I can update them with the "paketverwaltung" (sorry I don't know the englisch word) from ubuntu.

You can update FF and Wine because Ubuntu provides updated backports for them. Again, it's entirely up to Ubuntu & Canonical whether they provide updated VLC packages or not. The VideoLAN project cannot force them to do so.

No, I am using inofficial sources for them this has nothing to do with Canonical
Canonical only cares about security updates for FF.

the most repositorys are contributed from members of the projects... in ubuntu there are a lot of peoples which package also vlc in there ppa's (https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas)

but in the moment I dont now a good ppa for vlc

I try d myself, but had no time to fish packaging with all the features i wanted.

hi.. back again: I found a good ppa with all packages:

sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install vlc

I build yesterday a newer version (pre3 EDIT: current the rc) in my ppa.

But you need both ppa's

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/cutting-edge-multimedia sudo add-apt-repository ppa:thomas-creutz/ppa sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install vlc

EDIT: Not sure if its install automatically the vlc from my ppa.. when not your can force to install my version with synaptic.

so you get the current vlc ffmpeg ....

than depend on which hardware your use:

nvidia:

ati/amd:
go to http://www.splitted-desktop.com/~gbeauc ... vba-video/ and download the current deb package for your architecture (i386/amd64) to some place and double click it.

Intel GMA4500 users have access to the Intel VA-API driver in the libva package.
