VLC on QNAP TS-219

Postby Maverick_1980 » 03 Jan 2010 18:16

Hello,

I hope someone can help me with my problem. I am trying to get vlc work on a QNAP TS-219. (NAS with Marvell 6281 1.2GHz and 512 MB RAM)

(vlcversion = 0.9.9a-1)
If I start vlc on the qnap everything looks fine for me. Playing .ts files is no problem. But when i start mpeg2 or divx (avi) video files, vlc shows me following message very often: [I have installed all missing libs (plugins; like ffmpeg etc.) / I start vlc within a shh session]

vlc -vvv -I http

main mux warning - late buffer for mux input

I am not sure if the cpu has enough capability for vlc.
thx for your help.

Greetings,

Mav

I think vlc tries to convert the mpg file called "Renesse.mpg" to .ts-file.
How can i disable it ? I only want to stream this file to a dreambox where vlcf is installed.

This is the output of vlc ...

Hi maverick!

I have been trying to stream my movies from my PC to my dreambox as well so I could enjoy watching them on my TV set. which version of VLC do you have, is it the latest version 1.03 ? and how about your dreambox, what model is it and which image do you have installed on it (dreambox) ?

I haven't really come across this error message before during my experimentation with VLC, VLCF and dreambox. However, most of the movies Ihave are in AVI format, and when I play them on my PC with VLC 1.03 they play fantastically, but been having trouble with the streaming. I have been streaming via HTTP protocol, and I am going to try UDP as it is suppose to be faster but less reliable in that HTTP in sending the packets, or I think this is the case I might be wrong.

Maverick, if you have made any changes in the VLC settings on your PC, or in the VLCF.XML or VLCF.cfg files on the dreambox , then I would suggest you restore to the default settings and give it another try.

Good Luck and Best wishes,

~sam~

Hi Maverik,
may I ask you how did you succeed in starting vlc in the Qnap? I have a TS-109 Pro and I have installed vlc but I cannot start it... I only succeed in logging into the Qnap as "root" and if I try to start vlc it refuses due to security reasons...
I would also like to use the Qnap (which is always on) as server in order to stream videos through my dreambox (7025).
Thanks already

I was fiddling with that and what I did is install sudo package (ipkg install sudo) and then started vlc as

sudo -u anotherusername vlc -vvv -l http

This will run vlc under a different user (I used one of my QNAP user accounts I have previously setup in QNAP )

I had no luck streaming video from my TS-219p to my android phone. The process finishes immediately without any message and I cannot find it in running processes. (But considering I am quite a n00b, that does not have to mean anything)

Anyway, the ARM processor probably does not have enough power to transcode it anyway, but I still refuse to give up!
