VLC problem in reading VCD

I'm having problem reading VCD from my vlc application , the same works in WinXP , but not in my Ubuntu 9.04 . I can play the copied file from cd , dvd etc , but not from CD player .
My CD is mounting automatically thats sure , coz i can browse the content of the CD , even then I click from there its not working , should I add anymore codecs or plugins . The same is working with 7.04 Ubuntu version , I havent done anuything extra for 9.04 other than dowloading and installing GStreamer's.
