Got audio, no video

Postby mick_payke » 02 Oct 2009 03:39

Sorry if this replicating old posts. Been trying for a week to get vlc downloaded. Finally got it through the Acer support site and have the orange cone on my desktop but not getting any video. Am a complete newbie to linux and starting to get my head around certain commands in the terminal. But I don't understand repositories, or how to put codecs into the correct directories. I need a very basic step-by-step guide to getting video to play on my ACer Aspire one.
I have already tried the 'yum install fedora-release' in the terminal and absolutely nothing happens! I'm working with linpus linux.
Please help

Could you do the following command in a terminal: " vlc -vvv --no-plugins-cache --list --color |grep -i ffmpeg"

And report ant warning (yellow) lines

and if it lists ffmpeg or avcodec in the last part

Yellow reports
cannot load module `/usr/lib/vlc/access/libaccess_dv_plugin.so' (/usr/lib/vlc/access/libaccess_dv_plugin.so: undefined symbol: raw1394_set_iso_handler)
Couldn't see anything about ffmpeg or the vcodecs. Feel completely out of my depth here.
Thanks for the help though
