I hesitated to install VLC 1.0.1 in Windows, under the principle if it's not broke don't fix it. Is there a way to revert to 0.8.6d if I try 1.0.1?
That said, unfortunately I had to return the DVD sooner than I thought, so I can't troubleshoot this problem effectively anymore.
It curious, because the DVD did not work in ARCH Linux or Debian Linux trying a number of different programs and their respective codecs (Totem, Mplayer, Xine, VLC), which suggests to me that it's not just a problem with VLC 1.0.1. But it worked fine in Windows with VLC 0.8.6d and with Media Player Classic with the K-Lite codec pack. This was all on the same machine, just booting from different partitions.
Are there some codecs that exist only in Windows and not in Linux that would effect even the performance of VLC differently?
Has anyone else who dual boots Linux and Windows had this sort of problem?
