LIRC module

Postby poorboywilly » 24 May 2009 05:19

I use VLC on opensuse x86_64, I have the latest 0.9.9a build from the VLC opensuse repository. After a lot of troubleshooting, I finally figured out that "vlc --list" will show all the modules available, and "lirc" isn't on that list even though "--enable-lirc" is listed in the "libvlc was configured with..." message when I run VLC. What's the deal?

Had the same problem with 32-bit (vlc-0.9.9a-2.9 from the VideoLand repository). Forced install of the Mandriva plugin vlc-plugin-lirc-0.9.8a-1mdv2009.0.i586.rpm which took care of the problem.

I have vlc 0.9.9a-0.pm.0 (X86_64) (from the Packman repository), and it does have the lirc module available. I even see in the lircd output that it accepted the new client (vlc).
However, vlc doesn't respond to the remote control commands. I saw the remote control is working fine using irw.

Should I install the package from the VideoLAN repository and a Mandriva package for vlc-plugin-lirc?

You should not have to install the Mandriva lirc plugin. In preferences (all settings) - Interface - Control Interfaces: you should have ticked infrared remote control interface, and further down there should be typed "lirc" on the line.

If the above ok you might have problems with either /etc/lirc.cmd or your /home/yourself/.lircrc

I already have lirc working, and I know my /etc/lirc.conf is fine (irw shows all my button presses).
And I already enabled lirc support in vlc, and I even see in the lircd output that vlc connected to it. But pressing the buttons don't do anything in vlc.

Could you please copy your ~/.lircrc here? :D
