VLC on Ubuntu, DVD mishap

Postby Clandestine » 08 Apr 2009 01:51

Whenever I try and play a DVD VLC will only open it for a split second then collapse back into its original state, with no video or audio output.

I assume you have libdvdcss installed, and are not attempting to read a DVD from the wrong zone.

When I installed I just followed the directions on the VLC website for Ubuntu installs. Im a new user so dont quite have everything down yet. how would I go about making sure libdvdcss is installed, and making sure I am reading from the correct zone?

Someone should fix those instructions. It says to install libdvdcss2, but neglects to mention that you must enable the medibuntu repository first. See here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
