capture settings do not stay in place on Ubuntu Intrepid

I have been capturing, streaming , and saving video on Ubuntu Hardy using the gui,and command line. I just installed Intrepid on the same box, and things are buggy. In the gui video settings either are ignored or do not stay in place in the advanced capture area, etc... Currently, only audio plays, or distorted video. The same as if you selected the wrong video standard. On the command line I get a skins error, even though I have not made it part of the command to be executed.
