How do I play a current DVD movie?

Postby ToddAndMargo » 16 Dec 2008 00:59

Hi All,

Okay, I know it is time for me to buy a new TV
set, but until then, I like to occasionally watch
DVD movies on my computer, as it has the only
wide screen monitor in the house.

Problem: this year's DVD movies gag my computer's
DVD players. Last year's still work. And all of
them work in my TV's DVD player:

VLC 0.9.8a: pops up the viewer screen than drops it
a few seconds later

xine 0.99.6: starts the movie with no sound and
the picture is all broken up into quarter inch
blocks

kmplayer 0.10.0: tells me mplayer is not running

smplayer 0.6.5.1: tells me there is no disk in the drive

Anyone know how to play a current DVD?

Many thanks,
-T

My DVD player is am Optiarc AD-7200S-0B (SATA)

Yipee! Figured it out.

rpm -Uvh libdvdcss-1.2.10-5.el5.i386.rpm \
libdvdcss2-1.2.10-5.el5.i386.rpm

My old libdvdcss was out of date (1.2.8). Found the new rpm's at atrpms (pbone.net)

Hope this helps someone else,
-T
