Well, I think most devs don't have 6 channels... this is why.maybe it's not VLC's fault. It might be the pulse-alsa plugin that its configured with only 2 channels. I'll try playing with it.

Just as an update to this I wrote a patch that has been added to the git tree that supports surround sound (7.1,5.1,4.0, etc) pulseaudio output.
It should be in 0.9.6 or is available from git source.

i am using 1.0.6You need to use VLC 0.9.6 or later. You should already be using VLC 1.0.6 anyway (since earlier versions are insecure), so I fail to see a problem.
