default behavior:On demand or broadcast?

Postby ncsuapex » 14 Nov 2008 17:55

Judging from this command would you say that the default behavior in vlc is "on demand" or "broadcast"?

cvlc -v file.wmv --sout "#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=512,scale=1,acodec=mp3,ab=128}:std{access=mmsh,mux=asfh,dst=:1234" --loop

From what I've read on vlc I would say this is considered "on demand" as Ive seen documentation that describes how to set up a broadcast stream. Am I correct? The reason I ask is, we have an application that we are trying to stream a video into and it works when we do an "on demand" stream in Windows media service but not when we do a "broadcast". This vlc stream works in our app so that also makes me think it's "on demand"

Any ideas?

thanks!

Using the playlist, it's always broadcast. You can only use VOD with VLM or with the API bindings.

It's all depends how you define on-demand and broadcast ;)

from a network point of view, it's on demand because the client has to request the server to receive the stream.

From a video point of view it's broadcast because the client just get the video currently playing. it can't decide at which point to start.
