VLC in Asus Eee PC

Postby Mortis19 » 18 Oct 2008 09:46

Two days ago, i was brought an Asus Eee PC 701 2GB Surf with Linux. The point is that i try to install VLC and i cant manage with it. I Searched google, i found a few topics about VLC, i did what was written, but finally i couldnt install it. All URLs that are given, for putting them in /etc/apt/sources.list dont work to me. Can anyone help please?

Below are the steps that i followed:
1)I opened a terminal from file manager
2)I typed sudo bash
3)I typed nano /etc/apt/sources.list
4)I moved the cursor below all URLs and typed the URL of the deb and the deb-src (i changed them many times because any of them didnt work)
5)I pressed Ctrl+X, then y and then enter
6)I typed apt-get update (It took a few minutes and what was written in the end was E:Some index files dailed to download, they have ignored, or old ones used instead)
7)I typed apt-get install vlc and it shown to me E:Couldnt find package vlc.

Generally, the place to be for Eee PC help is EeeUser.com. I know it's possible to install VLC on a 4GB Eee but you might struggle without a bit of hassle on the 2GB model.

Best bet if you wanted to keep it simple would be to try out TweakEEE - http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=15320

If you were Linux adept you'd be better off chucking a different distribution on there like I did. That way you'd be guaranteed to get VLC working and have a significantly more flexible OS for future installs.
