VLC and Network

Postby BlueFiberOptics » 20 Oct 2007 19:42

I've tried posting on the Ubuntu Forums, but I never get any responses.

Here is my situation:
Ubuntu 7.10 is on my notebook.

I mounted a Windows network share and use VLC to play movie files wirelessly over the network.

The sound cracks or something every few seconds.
This does NOT happen with Totem Player.

If I connect an ethernet cable to my notebook, I can play files from my Windows box in VLC no problem. But how can it be a wireless issue if Totem Player plays the files correctly with no lag, etc?

I've tried for days and this is the only thing preventing me from using Ubuntu full time on my notebook.

(I need to use VLC because Totem Player lacks Subtitle options)

Exact same problem. VLC stutters every ~10 seconds from a share (im using a linux server instead of windows) Totem does not stutter. I am watching the wireless network traffic with iptraf, and im certain I know whats happening.

The movie grabs data, and the network is active. Then the network stops. The movie plays for ~10 seconds, and it stutters. All of a sudden the network traffic is active again and the movie smooths out.

How does one fix this?
