video capture set but black screen

Hi there,
I have the video capture set up. I want to capture video to save to files. I have a composite cable attached to my video capture card from my vcr and there is a signal coming through it. I can't find anywhere where I can specify the input as composite as opposed to s video for instance. I have the correct video card specified. Everything so far seems correct.
