ERROR: Could not add http://download.videolan.org/pub/......

Postby fatgoth » 22 Aug 2007 16:02

Hi, i have just got a problem when trying to create a new installation source.

I am running SLES10 64 and have already successfully set one installation for the SLES software to be installed from our network.

I have tried the following:

download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/10.1
download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/10.1

Each time i get: "Unable to create installation sourcefrom URL 'http://download.videolan.org/....." Details: cannot create the installation source.

Also i have tried from a terminal session:
sudo rug sa -t zypp http://download.videolan.org/pub/ ..... VLC

And this gives: "ERROR: Could not add http://download.videolan.org/pub/...... : Failed to parse XML metadata: Can't ad repository at http://download.videolan.org/pub ...: Cannot create the installation source.

I hope someone can help with this.

Many thanks

Maybe you first have to try to import the gpg key (happens apparently sometimes).

Code: Select all

sudo rpm --import http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/10.1/repodata/repomd.xml.key
and then try to add the repo again. Maybe it helps.

Thanks for that, unfortunately that failed to work as well.

I just get the following:

error: http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/Su ... md.xml.key: import read failed(-1).

well, there it looks to me like you have a connection problem.

Do you sit behind a proxy? Are you sure the whole setup of the network is correct?

For the key you can try the following:

Code: Select all

wget http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/10.1/repodata/repomd.xml.key sudo rpm --import repomd.xml.key
please paste me the complete output of this commands (if you should not just happen to see a communication problem)

Thanks for your help. Been a while but was moved on to other things for a while. The problem was, as you suggested, to do with one of our proxy servers and astaro.
Once sorted i was able to create the install sourse without any problems.

I now have another problem though (Yes again!)....

When i try to install the vlc-video lan client from Software Management , it fails with the following:

vlc-0.8.6c-3.3.x86_64[20071001-104958] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies
There are no installable providers of libdbus-1.so.3()(64bit) for vlc-0.8.6c-3.3.x86_64[20071001-104958]

vlc-beta-0.9.0-2.1586[20071001-104958] conflicts with other resolvables
vlc-beta-0.9.0-2.1586[20071001-104958] conflicts with vlc-0.8.6c-3.3.x86_64[20071001-104958]

vlc-beta-0.9.0-2.1586[20071001-104958] conflicts with other resolvables
vlc-beta-0.9.0-2.1586[20071001-104958] conflicts with vlc-0.8.6c-3.3.x86_64[20071001-104958]

I have tried to find the libdbus-1.so.3 to no avail

if i try to select 'do not install vlc-beta' it just ignores and gives the same error again.

Many thanks
