mpeg, mpg crash

Postby bandua » 01 Aug 2007 20:03

Under opensuse 10.2 (KDE 3.5.6, last kernel and updated) crashes when playing mpg or mpeg. Not an single frame is shown but VLC 0.8.6c opens and inmediatly crashes. Reason?

flv is not reproduced correctly (image distorted and puzzled) but that's another question.

*I installed vlc with the rpm from the repos for suse

Hi,

A known problem, as most likely you're also a PackMan user.
Try to use all libraries from the VLC Repo (say: libmpeg2 and ffmpeg).

Also, there might be a newer build of vlc in the repos already, as together with the PackMan team I was busy trying to avoid this conflict. A new build seemed to solve the mpeg issue. Still: for ffmpeg I suggest to use the one from vlc (it has more features enabled).

Please post the output of
rpm -q vlc ffmpeg libmpeg2 libffmpeg0

Thank you

Dominique

rpm -q

vlc-0.8.6c-0.pm.2
ffmpeg-0.4.9.8723-12.1
libmpeg2-0.4.1.1148-1.1
package libffmpeg0 is not installed

The vlc package you've installed is from packman (can be seen on the .pm. in the version of the package) and can not be supported by us.

Please follow the instructions on http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-suse.html to install the VLC Package from our repository.

Thank you.
