problem loading wxWidgets plugin?

Hi,

Built vlc-0.8.6b from src on x86 machine CentOS 5 (RHEL5).
removing ~/.vlc dir before every launch.
./vlc generates the following message:

skins2 interface error: no suitable dialogs provider found (hint: compile the wxWidgets plugin, and make sure it is loaded properly)

There's no wxwidgets in
vlc -vvv --color -list.

In another posting w/a similar problem, I saw someone suggesting rebuilding 'vlc' since the wxWidgets plugin wasn't linked in?
Is it possible to avoid re-building the extras/contrib when rebuilding the vlc?
To rebuild vlc w/o rebuilding extras/contrib:
In <top-dir>/vlc-0.8.6b/src:
make clean ; make
in <top-dir>/vlc-0.8.6b, I removed vlc-vlc.o and vlc (executable) and did:
make
Still have the same issue as before.
I do have:
./modules/gui/wxwidgets/libwxwidgets_plugin.so
How does this plugin gets pulled into the vlc?

My configure is as follows:

should gives you some error at the top pointing why wx can't be launched.

About extras/contrib, it's intended to suboptimal OS/distribution, which don't provide the libraries and development files in their packages.

As can be seen vlc's complaining about an undefined symbol "FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden" in (/usr/lib/libcairo.so.2) which I believe is defined in /usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6. Interestingly, I have both libs (cairo's and freetype's) in /usr/lib. However, I noticed that I have the following freetype libs built under vlc-0.8.6b src:

Hum, I'm not sure that you should build extras/contrib/ under linux. This might be causing the issues you're having.

That was the problem for the most part. Once I cleaned out everything in extras/contrib:
make distclean

make clean-bin

Then cleaned out everything (make distclean) from vlc-0.8.6b dir, and went thru the steps of rebuilding,
it works. I can play an mpeg (.mpg) file OK.

However, I am still short of reaching my goal: receive and show networked streaming video (over multicast).

Here's my setup and a few noteworthy information that I hope are useful.

All machines are CentOS 5 (RHEL5).
Video server: VLC 0.8.6b installed from binary
attached to a webcam on the same machine, streams the video over a multicast address

Video-Client1: VLC 0.8.6b installed from binary:
vlc -vvv udp:@239.255.12.42
Works great!
Receives and displays the multicast video stream.

Video-Client2: VLC 0.8.6b built from src (runs vlc compiled from src only--this machine does NOT have an installed vlc from binary):
Verified that the multicast video is received by Video-Client2 but is unable to show.


Short version of findings:
Comparing the log outputs of client1 (binary works OK) and client2 (src), it looks like the client1 (which works OK) is using TS demuxer where as client2 is using PS demuxer instead. How can the TS demuxer be built?

As far as I can tell:
mux_ts TS muxer (libdvbpsi) and
ts MPEG Transport Stream demuxer

are missing from the vlc (Video-Client2 src version). I know that the libdvbpsi is in contrib/extras.
I have the following questions:
1) What plugins and modules are needed for the TS demuxer? Are the 2 above the only ones? or there's more?
2) What are the 'ts' plugin names? libts_plugin....?
3) How can I build the 'ts' MPEG Transport Stream demuxer? Looks like only the 'ps' gets built.
