deb packages for ubuntu

Postby MetalheadGautham » 17 Jun 2007 07:49

I finally installed Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn in my PC to dual boot with Windows XP!

But I am not able to connect to the net via Ubuntu, hence I want to know where I can get a .deb package of VLC Media Player.

@j-b: now I got yet another forum to use regularly :P

sorry for the red lettering... anyway, one thing I hate about linux is that you have to compile everything... to install the drivers for my ethernet modem, I have to compile the drivers :(

I think I am better off asking somebody for it....

I think you should first fix the network connection issue with Ubuntu.

P.P.S. MetalheadGautham, how did you manage to spam this forum without actually spamming this forum? :P

a deb package just for vlc is worthless, this is not as easy as in windows; because there are many dependencies. see http://packages.debian.org/stable/graphics/vlc to see how many dependencies you actually need. you

and what about an RPM package too? these are required because one may be able to distribute them in a cd to others. all the dependencies can be downloaded...

well... I guess not. then what can I use? I want a complete media player in a deb package....

PS atleast an mp3 player ?

or is there a package where all the extra ubuntu gstreamer codecs are available?

if you have a fast net connection, you can download the ubuntu dvd's, then use them as local repositories using apt-cdrom. but while you are at it, better download the debian dvd.

also, google for "local repository" ubuntu
