VLC 0.8.6a: full screen mode works only once

Postby fansari » 24 Feb 2007 13:04

Hi,

after I compiled VLC 0.8.5 on a X86_32 PC I now want to use version 0.8.6 on a X86_64 PC.

For this I used the precompiled version for SuSE 10.1 because all attempts with a self compiled version failed.

VLC is working except for one thing: if I enter the full screen mode and switch back to window mode I cannot switch back into full screen mode. At least not really. I always see the top bar of the window then and the GNOME panel on the bottom. Sometimes I can get rid of the latter by selecting 'On top' in the upper left corner but even this does not work always. So it seems to be a mixture of 'full screen' and 'maximize'.

The only way to get full screen back is to close the DVD and to open it again.

Has anybody experienced the same kind of behaviour? Is it a bug in the software or am I doing something wrong?

You're not alone with this. It seems to be a strange interaction problem between VLC and Gnome in specific versions (I think it started with 2.14)

I think there was no solution comming up yet... but I have not checked VLC 0.9.0 yet to verify if the next version would be free of this error.
