i am having trouble installing VLC on UBUNTU

I am trying to install VLC using the source code
..
i,e
./configue
make install

when i type ./configure i get the following error

checking for wx-config... no
configure: error: The skins2 module depends on the wxWidgets development package. Without it you won't be able to open any dialog box from the interface, which makes the skins2 interface rather useless. Install the wxWidgets development package or alternatively you can also configure with: --disable-wxwidgets --disable-skins2.


i have installed all the other dependency..s
i tried installing wx2.8 using (apt-get install)... and i am not able to find where the wx-config file is placed..


please help me out

I'm using Ubuntu also and I've installed VLC the Ubuntu way
