AC3 Passthrough

Postby mrblue1234 » 12 May 2017 20:20

All,

I hope everyone is having a great day.

1.) I am using VLC version 3.0.0 on a Raspbian distribution from the command line.

2.) I am trying to play a video containing AC3 surround and would like to do this in the pass-through mode. The command I am using is:

vlc --spdif video.mp4

3.) The problem is that if I include the --spdif option to do the AC3 passthrough what I am receiving is still PCM 2.0. Connecting to my AVR (Audio/Video Receiver) the display shows PCM.

4.) When I take this same video file and use a different player (Kodi) the AC3 pass-through works and I see Dolby Digital on the AVR.

5.) What am I missing here with VLC? Does VLC still support pass-through mode? Is there a argument that I am missing on the command line?

Thank you.
