Can't get SPDIF through my M-Audio Delta 66 (ALSA)

Postby tvhwy » 29 Aug 2008 07:44

Hi,

I'm in VLC 0.9.1 on x86 Linux. Under audio output options, I've selected my M66 card. (I am running a second sound device, an integrated VIA sound chip.) I've also checked "Use SPDIF when [where?] available". I am not getting any sound.

My other multimedia players like Amarok and mplayer allow me to enter my ALSA device name manually. I don't see how to do that in the VLC GUI. I entered that device name, "alsadev=spdif:M66", in my vlcrc, but it didn't make a difference.

aRts grinds my sound streams like a malicious 8-track player, and I can't figure out JACK. So as long as I'm using ALSA: Any suggestions?
