Can't take snapshots anymore?

Today I opened VLC and was prompted to install some updates. After those were finished, I tried to take snapshots (with the shortcut and going to Video -> Snapshot) and keep getting this error message:

Streaming/Transcoding Failed
VLC could not open the encoder

I've tried re-installing, resetting my preferences, and nothing is working! Can anyone help me out?

Thanks for the report. For so-far unknown reasons, the jpeg encoder isn't functional in VLC 2.0.1. I filed a ticket on that in our bugtracker (ticket 6415).

For the meantime, change the output format in the Preferences ("Video" category) to png.

Same error for PNG as well, can't take any snapshot, I need to hit print screen, then edit it in photoshop

Strange. PNG capturing works fine on the Mac as well as on Windows. Make sure to restart VLC after changing the snapshot format.
