Subtitle Autodetection Path Preference not working?

Greetings,
Not sure if this is Mac OS X specific, but it's all I have.
VLC 2.0.0 Intel 64 Bit on Lion 10.7.3: the Subtitle Autodetection Path appears to not detect any more. I haven't changed anything in my setup or prefs, except for updating VLC from whatever the last 1.X version was. I have an External Drive with a bunch of .avi files and a " Subs" Folder containing all the subtitles for those avi files at the root of it. (yes, there's a space at the beginning of " Subs" so it's at the top of the list, and I have tried it removing the space).
In VLC Preferences I have "./Subtitles, ./subtitles, ./ Subs, ./ Subtitles, ./Subs" in the Subtitle Autodetection Path field. All was fine until the 2.0 update.
I hope I have provided enough information so this can be verified (and hopefully fixed).
