mod videos not playing smoothly

Downloaded VLC today to view my MOD/MOI movies files stored on a DVD from PC. Files open ok, yay!, but do not play smoothly - stop, start, jumpy. I did what the VLC instructions said re: preferences and module > ffmeg and 'hurry up', but hasn't improved...any tips to get files to play smoothly???

* Go to VLC's preferences
* Click on "All" at the bottom of the window
* Navigate to "Input/Codecs" -> "Access modules" -> "MMap"
* Activate "Use file memory mapping"
* Save the settings and restart VLC.

So, no answer for a simple polite (as my english allows me) question? The player took 6.5GB of RAM after 1h30m movie, is it ok? ...

No, it's ATI 6970. Got all the latest updates (Lion 10.7.3).
It looks like the same problem (the inactive memory is taken) I've seen in a couple of old topics about it (like this
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=82947)
