Nightly Builds

I was looking at the nightly builds for the Mac and was a little confused on how these might be installed. After searching through the forums and on the nightly builds page I am unable to locate a set of instructions on how to install these builds. Can anyone give me direction on how I might install one of these on the Mac.

I have searched and have yet to find a *.dmg file in the *zip. The two downloads I have been looking at are vlc-stable-x86_64-20120116-0316.zip and vlc-stable-i686-20120116-0352.zip.

Also, something that might explain why I am having troubles with this is I am a fairly new Mac user.....

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks,
Shawn

Download this one vlc-stable-x86_64-20120116-0316.zip ,open the zip file double click on the VLC icon and the vlc player is starting . It works just fine for me.

Yep, for matters of simplicity, we provide nightly builds as zip-archived packages in contrast to releases delivered as dmgs. The content is the same.

I was looking at the download with a pc and didnt see the file labeled as *.dmg even though I had the file extensions enabled. It did work as soon as I downloaded it on my Mac. One quick quesiton since I am posting here...

Will the I686 work on a 64bit Mac? The x86-64 worked great just wanted to know when you apply the I686 to Mac users.

Thanks,
Shawn

yeah, sure, a 64bit Mac runs 32bit apps just fine.

We will use the 32bit variant on Mac OS X 10.5 (regardless of the CPU) due to bugs in the OS and on 10.6 machines with 32bit-only CPUs. On 10.6 with 64bit-capable CPUs and 10.7, we will use the 64bit variant. Additionally, the 64bit variant will be the only build with all the UI features (such as Lion's native fullscreen support, etc.).
