Subtitles problem. Special characters rendered as squares

Hi.
I'm having a problem with the Freetype2 font renderer in the lastest versions of VLC. This module can't show correctly the special characters of the Spanish language, like á or ñ. Theses characters appears in the screen as squares.
With the default rendering module all works fine, but I want to use the Freetype2 because of the "Fat outline" option.
Here is a screenshot of the problem in the last version of VLC, 1.1.12
I've read some post talking about some problems with the subtitles in the 1.0.2 version, so I downloaded the 1.0.1 version and all works fine.
Here is a screenshot of the same video and subtitle files, rendering the text correctly with freetype2
Also, as you can see, the text in the 1.0.1 version is very much legible.
