Green Screen

Hello.

I'm on Mac and my VLC is up to date (v 1.1.11) however when I try to run some mkv files, all I'm getting is a green screen. I have the sound but no visual. I was always able to get files working but lately this has been happening on more than one case.

When I ask about it to the places I get the files I'm trying to work from (different places) I'm always answered "It should work" or "use the latest version" - which are of course not helpful at all.

Is there anybody who can help me? OR any way I can get these files working?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have noticed that I'm mostly having this problem with "10 bit" files. I don't know if it's connected, but I wanted to let you know in case it helps. This has happened twice with 10 bit files so far.

This is because those files are 10bits. You will need VLC 1.2 to play those.

As I said before; it is up to date. When I say "check for updates" it says "You're up to date! VLC 1.1.11 is currently the newest version available."

But if you're saying this won't be a problem with the next update; I guess I should wait.

Somebody recommended another player and it works with that. I must give it a try to that one since I don't seem to have another choice right now.

Thanks for the answer though.

It seems like there was an update today so I downloaded VLC 1.1.12, however 10bit files still aren't working and the green screen issue is still the same as before.

because you still need to wait for 1.2 as mentioned.

You can also pick a pre-release build of VLC 2.0 at http://nightlies.videolan.org

So I had the same problem with certain MKV files being green for me as well. Google brought me here. I tried a few of the VLC nightlies and I can say that this one released on 27 Jan seems to work the best for me: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/mac ... 7-1022.zip

FYI I have a Macbook Pro bought 2009 with 10.6.8.
