Picture becomes pixelated all the time when playing videos

Hi guys,

I'm using the latest VLC and when I play an AVI movie, the picture breaks up and becomes messed up for few seconds. This is happening almost every few minutes and it's annoying as heck.

I've tried Movist, QT with Perian and they don't have these issues. Only VLC becomes pixelated. I've experienced it with various other videos as well. It's definitely not the video but something with VLC.

Why is it doing that and how do I fix it?!

Thanks!

PS: I'm running Lion and latest VLC.

Messages window shows this:
main warning: late picture skipped (30999 > -715)

Tried to reset VLC's preferences by deleting a folder called "org.videolan.vlc" and the file "org.videolan.vlc.plist"? You can find these in your Preferences folder in the user folder's Library (which is hidden on OS X Lion by default, hit alt when opening the "Go" menu to reveal it).

I deleted them all and restarted and I still see these pixel errors. Here's an example of what I see:

Any ideas?

File is local.. an AVI file. Computer's a laptop with SSD and Intel i5 CPU.
