On-the-fly Quadraphonic ?

I have been able to set my MacBook Pro to output Quadraphonic sound via my M-Audio Profire 2626, which in turn feeds 2 amplifiers for front and rear speakers.

the configuration is working flawlessly for DVDs (ie The Eagles -- Hell Freezes Over Live) - and I will never watch another DVD in stereo as long as i live :)

but i was wondering if it were somehow possible to set VLC up to do quadraphonic decoding on the fly -- ie taking a stereo music file and using the phase matrix information to generate quadraphonic sends as the music was playing? i have seen hardware phase matrix decoders on ebay but am looking for a software one instead, if possible. if this were possible, it would work a treat with Pink Floyd, Beatles et al :)

any ideas?

I think I understand what you are trying to accomplish. However, there's nobody in the team at the moment who is enough into audio stuff to add support this (meaning it isn't supported at the moment).
So, sorry, unless some 3rd party contributors steps and adds this, VLC can't support it.
