Lion and Apple Remote

Hello,

It looks like VLC is ignoring the Apple Remote's inputs on Lion, tried with the latest nightly build, doesn't work either (launches iTunes when play is pressed).

Also tried to delete preferences.

Thanks,
Antoine.

Works correctly for me. Make sure to use the latest version of VLC.

I have the same problem. Install "remote buddy" that works

Well, as said, it works correctly for me without 3rd party drivers.

Same behavior for me. After upgrading from 10.1.6 to Lion, Apple Remote stopped work for VLC. Upgraded to 1.11.1, no success. Cleaned preferences, installed VLC again ... remote continues not working.

On pressing play/pause, iTunes comes on screen.

Any suggestions?

Just for clarifying purposes: my remote is working on iTunes and Front Row. So, it is a software problem.

10.7 Lion does not include Front Row. Please verify that you are on 10.7.

I can verify that the remote indeed works on 10.7 with VLC 1.1.11.

Yes, you are right. Theefore I installed Front Row from a non-official package in order to test my remote. But, YES, I'm running Lion (10.7) and my IR is not working anymore along VLC

Ah, the issue you are facing may have cropped up when you installed the non-official Front Row. Are you able to remove FR and test the remote to see if it works with VLC as expected, then install FR and test?

I don't think so. After Lion update, my IR is no longer working. Tested on iTunes, OK. Tested in Front Row, OK. So, the IR was working before Lion update. Before installing FR on Lion, my IR was not working also.

I'm running out of ideas ... :-(

Same here, no Candelair, no Rowmote or any third party app that uses the Remote.

Maybe you can try installing Candelair, rebooting, uninstall Candelair, rebooting??

I had the same problem. Thanks to your advice I could solve it :D I just uninstall CaldelAir plug-in (it was in the System Preferences), restart my iMac and I can use a Remote Control in VLC player again

I'm seeing the same problem described in this thread. I recently purchased a Macbook Pro 15" and used the migration assistant to transfer everything from my older MBP to the new one. I do not have any third party remote control drivers like the one mentioned in this thread installed (I've checked my System Prefs). When I try to use the Apple remote VLC does nothing and instead iTunes is launched and starts playing songs. I have reinstalled the latest 64bit VLC and deleted prefs and then made sure that the "Control playback with Apple Remote" is checked. So far no luck. Note that on my older MBP that was running the latest Snow Leopard release the apple remote controlled VLC as expected (without a third party remote driver). Anyway have any other ideas as to how to get this working again?

Actually I just googled some more and found various fixes:

http://www.mac-hatter.com/blog/frontrowenablerforlion
and
http://lifehacker.com/5651055/free-your ... g-required

both of which I'm reticent to use as I try not to modify the base OS config if I can help it. If it is some native remote control daemon that is preventing VLC from working with the Apple Remote I may wait for the upcoming Lion update to see if they will fix this (I'm going to complain to Apple Care in the meantime.).

Well, as you can see from the previous responses on this thread, eventual incompatibilities with the Apple Remote on OS X Lion can be fixed by removing 3rd party drivers such as Candelair or Remote Buddy.
VLC responds absolutely correctly to the Apple Remote on default installations of OS X Lion. Make sure to have VLC 1.1.9 or later though (latest is VLC 1.1.12 at the moment).

I have no 3rd party drivers such as Candelair or Remote Buddy, I never had it.
I do have the latest version of VLC 1.1.12.
And my apple remote doesn't work anymore…

First, try resetting VLC's preferences by deleting a folder called "org.videolan.vlc" in ~/Library/Preferences

If it still doesn't work, make sure that the Apple Remote is recognized by other apps such as QuickTimePlayer or iTunes. Note that VLC will only respond to the AppleRemote in case it is the front-most application. If it isn't, VLC ignores its requests to prevent compatibility issues with other remote clients.

I did delete the preferences, it was the first thing I did…
What do you mean by "VLC will only respond to the AppleRemote in case it is the front-most application" ? If VLC is in full screeen, is it the front-most application ?
Thank you for your help !
